FAQ

Questions, answered calmly.

What is Zaelar?

A Personal Operating System — one place where your agent lives, remembers, and acts for your digital life. It's not a chatbot or an assistant app; it's the layer it runs on.

So Zaelar isn't the assistant?

Right. Your agent is who you talk to — you give it a name (Harvey, Susan, or your own). Zaelar is the operating system that hosts it.

Is it free?

The software is open source and free to self-host, forever. Zaelar Cloud — the fully managed version — starts at €9.99/month.

What am I paying for?

Convenience, not hosting. The €9.99 base covers your cloud account, storage, automatic updates, encrypted backups and sync. The AI compute your agent uses is paid separately as Energy — because you're really paying for the external AI, not for Zaelar.

What are Energy Capsules?

Recharges for the AI compute your agent consumes. Your plan includes monthly Energy; when you need more, you top up (€10–€500). Energy never expires, and if you run out, Zaelar simply eases off with a heads-up — never a surprise bill.

Can I run it myself?

Yes. Zaelar is open source — clone it, bring your own AI keys, and run it anywhere. You'll handle setup, updates, backups and uptime yourself.

Why choose Cloud if self-hosting is free?

Because self-hosting well means running a server 24/7, keeping it updated, backed up and secure. Cloud does all of that for you and stays continuously up to date. When something breaks, we lose sleep — not you.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your data lives in your own space — isolated, encrypted and portable. Because Zaelar is open source, anyone can verify exactly what runs on your data. You can leave and self-host anytime. No lock-in.

When can I use it?

Zaelar Cloud is rolling out to a whitelist in small batches. Request early access — or self-host today.

Who's behind Zaelar?

Zaelar is an Asimovia company.
